Do you do web design?

The simple answer is no, we are a web development agency and so our specialist skills are taking your designs and turning them into a web application. Most of our clients are web designers or design agencies although occasionally we will work with a start-up or other company who already have a preferred design agency but no-one to handle the back-end development.

We do however care about good design, we aim to ensure that your vision in terms of the design and branding is implemented in a way that is sympathetic to that vision.

What technologies do you use?

For back-end (server-side) web application development our favoured environment is PHP usually along with the MySQL database in a LAMP (Linux, Apache, MySQL, PHP) server set-up. We develop PHP using an Object-Oriented approach and aim to follow industry best practices.

On the front end we develop in valid HTML, XHTML (Strict) and CSS along with JavaScript (including Ajax).

Will your work be accessible?

We believe accessibility should be a basic part of any site or application and will always work to ensure that we do not compromise the accessibility of your site in any way.

Do you offer hosting?

Hosting is best left to specialists. Whilst we are pretty comfortable around server administration and are happy to help you get your server up and running, we do not run our own servers. We will give advice on the type of hosting required for any site or application and can help you or your client get that set up either on a host of your choice or our recommended suppliers Memset.

Can you come to client meetings with me or deal directly with my clients?

Any level of involvement with the end client will be something that forms part of the specification for the job. For many projects we do not deal with the end client at all and whether they know about our involvement or not is up to you. Sometimes - particularly in a highly technical project - it is useful to have a developer present at meetings, involved in phone conferences or available in a training session. Where required this consultancy time will be included in your specification and estimate.

Any contact your client makes with us will be also copied to you so that you are always in control of your project.

Can we get a quote?

To provide a full quote for a project we will require a specification that details the requirements of the project and, in the case of CSS/XHTML development, examples of the layouts in image format.

Should you require a ballpark estimate then contact us with the details that you have and we can give you an estimate that you can base a budget around. We cannot be held to any estimate that does not fully detail the project requirements however. Should you have a fixed budget then please let us know - we will always try to suggest ways in which you can move forward with a project on a small but realistic budget.

Can you develop a technical specification for me?

If your project does not have a technical specification to enable a quote to be supplied we can work with you to develop a specification. Typically this will involve 1 - 2 days work by an experienced developer who will work with you to detail all the required features of your application and how they could be implemented. Once this work is complete we can also give you an estimate on the development of the project, however the technical specification would be a piece of work owned by you and you are free to take that to other agencies for an estimate as well.

In what format can we send our design comps?

We can accept files in Photoshop, Illustrator, Fireworks or any other standard design package. Clearly grouped and labelled layers make us happy!

Do you offer support after delivering a project?

We can offer ongoing support and development as required. This can be on an as needed basis or as an ongoing retained service.
