CSS Beginners Course
Our one day beginner level CSS training course will get you started building web pages using CSS and XHTML. The one day course is created and taught by Rachel Andrew and Drew McLellan.
Who is the course for?
This course is a beginner level course and does not assume any knowledge of CSS, however many delegates who have completed this course have been using CSS for several years but found the course useful to consolidate the bits of knowledge they already had gained ad hoc. You will find this course useful if:
- You have experience creating sites using a package such as Dreamweaver, Expression Web or FrontPage but want to really understand how the underlying code works
- You are a web designer who is currently using tables for layout and understands the need to move to CSS
- You have started to use CSS for layout but struggle to create cross browser compatible layouts
- You are responsible for maintaining pages created with XHTML or HTML and CSS
What will you learn?
The course is hands on and practical, with explanations backed by a series of exercises to complete. You will be able to take away the starting points and solutions to these exercises as a reminder of the skills you have learned. There will be time to ask questions.
In the morning we will explain the fundamentals of CSS including:-
- How to apply CSS to an (X)HTML page
- CSS selectors and rules
- Styling text
- Using images and background images
After a break for lunch (which will be provided) we will move onto page layout using CSS. Creating three different layouts which will cover the main techniques needed to build layouts in CSS.
- Absolute and relative positioning
- Floated layout
- Clearing floats
- Creating fixed width designs
- Creating liquid (flexible width) designs
We will also cover techniques that will help you to build cross-browser CSS layouts, including how to deal with Internet Explorer 6 bugs.
When is the course running?
We do not currently have an open course date scheduled. We are always happy to visit your company to run this as an in-house training course.
Where is the course held?
Public courses are held at The Moor Hall Conference Centre, Cookham nr. Maidenhead. Moor Hall has plenty of on-site, free parking, if you are coming via public transport then the centre is a short walk or cab ride from Cookham railway station. Change at Maidenhead (trains from Paddington, Reading, Oxford and the South West) for Cookham.
What will it cost?
For open courses the cost per delegate is £350 + VAT. This includes refreshments throughout the day and a buffet lunch. There will be a ratio of 5 delegates to 1 instructor so there will be plenty of help and assistance available.
For in-house courses presented at your offices the cost is £800 + VAT per instructor per day + instructor expenses billed at cost (for example travel and a hotel room should the course be further than commutable distance from Maidenhead, UK). As our courses are very hands on and practical, we would advise that should you have up to 6 delegates to train, one instructor would be a suitable ratio, should you have more than 6 delegates you would require an additional instructor.
We can run this course as a one day course or as two days in conjunction with our HTML and Web Standards course, giving a full introduction to standards based, modern web development.
What should I bring?
For open courses delegates should bring their own laptop computer which can be running any Operating System. You should also have installed a text editor that you are confident using. There will be Wireless Internet access available to all delegates.
In-house we require all delegates to have a computer and text editor as above, we will also require access to a projector.
How do I book?
We do not currently have an open course scheduled. If you would like to request further details about in-house training please contact us.
